Councillors voted last night to pay for a temporary venue whilst the Town Hall is earthquake strengthened. Whilst there is a need to provide for some events and conferences whilst the Town Hall is closed, there are questions about whether this project is the highest priority for earthquake strengthening amongst all the other work that we must do to make our city safe.
The business case was somewhat problematic also. Figues around the safety of WoW were used to support the case for strengthening when this was actually a separate issue and alternative options were not in my view fully explored.
