This is a difficult one for me. On the negative side, it is a lot of money and is likely to have a negative impact on the local environment and possibly our climate.
On the other hand, we are obviously geographically isolated and if we want to enhance our reputation as an international city, it is imperative that people can get here. Most of us like to travel internationally, it is in our blood as Kiwis and as yet there aren't any good alternatives to climate inducing air flights.
