The article in today's DomPost about Wellington's economic performance is not entirely correct. Wellington city's figures are better than the region. Over the last decade, GDP growth has been at 2%, employment growth at 1.4% and population growth at 1.5%. So, we are tracking along with the rest of the country in spite of cutbacks in the public service and challenges over earthquake strengthening.
We have some more work to do but Wellingtonians can take heart that things are slowly starting to improve. Our Destination Wellington programme will start to show fruit in the near future. Attracting sustainable businesses to Wellington is essential.
