New buidlings at risk after quakes too

I really feel for BNZ and Centreport after the BNZ's building suffered significant damage after the earthquake. It will be very disruptive for them and the costs will be high.

It will also of course be very interesting to understand why the building failed to the extent that it did given it was just built. Is this a problem with the Building Code or the way the building was actually constructed? Lessons to be learned here.
