Who should pay for earthquake strengthening?

This critical question is addressed in a feature article today in the DomPost by Anthony Hubbard. Mayor Wade-Brown and myself.

I have been deeply frustrated by the Government's unwillingness to engage in this discussion. Yes, it is a very difficult question to answer but we must find solutions not only workable for building owners but the city and country.

Looking forward to seeing what the Government has to say when it finally releases its response ton consultation on building standards. No point in making further demands on owners if there is no discussion on how to pay for it.

  1. Recently, I've heard from several people who own commercial buildings in the CBD. The point they make is that along with affordable solutions they need some certainty, ie sound decisions that can stay in force for the foreseeable future.
