Thanks to the Dominion Post for highlighting the relief package from the Council which I have led to make it just a little easier for owners to earthquake strengthen buildings. More work is being done on further measures in time for the Long Term Plan which will be consulted on this year and next.
The package gives some rates relief to owners of all earthquake prone buildings for three years and five years for heritage buildings plus a discount for building consent fees. Ideas for other ways to help owners welcome as there is significant public benefit in making sure the capital's buildings are strong.
