Heritage debate continues

The debate over what heritage should be preserved in Wellington has been discussed in two articles in The Dominion Post.

Generally I think the Council is doing well with numerous buildings and other objects being protected over the last few years and only a tiny number of listed items being lost over the last ten years.

The question though is whether we are capturing all the buildings that need to be on our District Plan. As the councillor now responsible for heritage, this is an issue I have started working on with officers and will continue to do over the next few years. At the very least I would like to see what other incentives could be offered to building owners and do at least another plan change protecting more buildings, sites and trees before the end of the triennium (the process to list is both time and resource intensive).
