Auckland rail U-turn, time for the Government to do the same in Wellington

Great article today in The Sunday Star Times from Tracy Watkins and Vernon Small in which they argue that Prime Minister Key did a U-Turn on Auckland's inner city rail link because the Nats are so worried about losing support in Auckland and have recognised that they just need to get on and work with Len Brown, who is recognised as the likely winner in this year's Mayoral elections.

Obvious next question is why not Wellington? This is Green/Red country, don't they care about losing support here too? The Nats have something to learn about working with democratically elected mayors and councillors.

  1. That it is "Green/Red country" is precisely why they don't care and will do nothing.
