I'm a little ambivalent on this one after hearing that Rock Solid Holdings are planning a big box development at Takapu Island.
In some ways it is great news that money is coming into the city and that this land will be developed. The land has been vacant and could be used more productively.
However, it may suck business away from the main shopping area in Tawa and hurt local retailers. I also had some involvement in the issue and had wanted a more mixed development approach, i.e. office space, retail and residential but it hasn't been possible to achieve that outcome. The outcome on this one will be very interesting.
