The Wellington Library Coalition have been diligent in monitoring expenditure by the Council on our precious libraries. They are right to say that funding has been cut in this area over the last few years, but other areas have been affected by cuts as well.
This year Council however is putting more money into libraries. I won $60k extra to put into managing the collection and children's literacy, all library staff will be paid the Living Wage and some extra money has been put into paying for routine operational expenses.
I will certainly be working towards increased funding as we go into our Long Term Plan and think there would be wide support for such a move.
